Helmed by Fede Álvarez, “Alien: Romulus” has turned out to be a juggernaut at the box office and has raked in $225 million globally since its release on August 16, 2024. The ninth film in the Alien franchise, it follows a new cast of characters as it bridges the storyline between the original “Alien” that was released in 1979 and its sequel, “Aliens,” which was released in 1986.
Alien: Romulus Cast:
- Ensemble leader Cailee Spaeny is joined by co-stars David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, and Isabela Merced.
- The other relatively small but talented cast of the film includes Spike Fearn, Aileen Wu, and others.
Alien: Romulus Box Office Records:
- “Alien: Romulus” topped the raw earnings of both Ridley Scott’s “Alien” ($186 million) and James Cameron’s “Aliens” ($183 million).
- However, inflation adjusts the classics to still keep them ahead of the game.
- Matching the original’s adjusted global total of $856 million will require a longer run for “Romulus”.
- Although it will not be comparable to the astonishing take of the 1979 film, still it is a big accomplishment for science fiction horror.
Behind the Scenes:
- Director Fede Alvarez brought in the special effects guys behind “Aliens” to help out with the creatures.
- It used practical sets and real effects to give the visual impact a bit more ‘grounded’ result.
In space, no one can hear you scream-but at the box office, “Alien: Romulus” roars.
