Starring John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh, Vedaa was released on Independence Day, August 15, 2024. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, it explores a teacher-student relationship and speaks about the caste problems in the country. Slow pace and stretched screenplay made it less impressive to critics.
On the opening day, Vedaa raked in ₹6.52 crore domestically at the box office counter. Of its total earnings of ₹6.5 crore, most of it came from the Hindi-speaking belt. The overall occupancy stood at 35.63%.
Though this figure was less as compared to Stree 2 which has collected almost ₹55 crore, it fared a bit better than Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein that also hit the theatres on the same day and collected ₹5 crore. Still, it falls short of John Abraham’s previous Independence Day releases like Batla House and Satyameva Jayate that opened to ₹14 crore and ₹19.50 crore respectively.
