Jonathan Majors, known for his role as the villain Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), was dismissed following allegations of misdemeanor involving his former girlfriend.
He has expressed his disappointment over being replaced by Robert Downey Jr. as the primary antagonist in the MCU. Majors told TMZ that he is “heartbroken” but acknowledges the appeal of Downey’s character, Doctor Doom, while maintaining his affection for Kang.
What Jonathan Majors Has to Say
In a street interview with TMZ, Majors commented on his replacement by Downey Jr., saying, “Yeah, heartbroken. Of course. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though.”
When asked about the fairness of Downey’s return to Marvel despite his 1996 arrest for drug possession, Majors remarked, “I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been greeted with patience and curiosity and love, and being allowed to work (his) art and be creative at that level. I didn’t really get that.”
Majors About His Future
Majors expressed his enthusiasm for a potential return to the MCU, stating, “Hell yeah! Hell yeah! I love him. I love Kang. If that’s what the fans want, and that’s what Marvel wants then let’s roll. Hell yeah.” Despite being found guilty in December 2023 of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment, Majors avoided jail time but was ordered to participate in an intervention program.
Following this, Marvel Studios decided to drop him from future MCU projects, including the next two Avengers films.
Robert Downey Jr., who initially launched the MCU’s success with his portrayal of Iron Man, is set to return, as announced by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at the recent San Diego Comic-Con.
However, Downey will not reprise his Iron Man role; instead, he will play the villain Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom, in two upcoming Avengers films: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. These movies will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who are returning to the franchise after their work on Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
